Wavy Wonders' Commitment to Shrinking the Carbon Footprint of Seaweed Snacks

1. BACKGROUND

Wavy Wonders set out to measure and reduce its environmental impact.

Wavy Wonders, a Denmark-based company specializing in seaweed snacks, has always been mindful of environmental sustainability. As consumer demand grows for products with clear environmental impact information, Wavy Wonders saw the need to understand their own carbon footprint. They wanted both to reduce their emissions and to be transparent with customers about the environmental impact of their products.

2. WHAT WE DID

To support Wavy Wonders in their sustainability journey, SuFu introduced the Product Climate Footprint service, a tool designed to calculate and map the emissions of each product. Together, we calculated the carbon footprint at each production stage and designed graphics that visually represent each product’s climate impact. During the analysis, we identified data gaps in some smaller supply chain stages. To address this, SuFu applied specialized models and assumptions to estimate emissions, providing Wavy Wonders with a comprehensive and accurate overview of their carbon footprint.

Our study highlighted key emission hotspots, with transportation and processing—especially drying—contributing unexpectedly high emissions, while the carbon footprint was similar across their product range.

3. IMPACT

With SuFu’s insights and tailored emission reduction strategies, Wavy Wonders now has the data needed to take specific actions in high-impact areas, working toward reducing or even eliminating their unavoidable emissions. By sharing this transparent environmental information with customers, Wavy Wonders strengthens its commitment to sustainability and sets a foundation for future improvements. This study serves as a benchmark for setting measurable sustainability targets, helping the company continuously advance its environmental goals.
