Embedded Emissions
Embedded emissions are the greenhouse gas emissions generated during the production of goods, which remain “embedded” in the product itself. CBAM requires importers to report these embedded emissions for covered goods, as the emissions amount determines the carbon cost applied to imports under the mechanism, ensuring accountability for imported carbon-intensive products.
